Western Gailes is a championship links laid out in 1897 by F Morris on the Ayrshire coast, renowned for its naturally demanding layout and celebrated 6th and 7th holes. Ranked among Britain's finest courses, it features an unusual anticlockwise routing with the clubhouse positioned halfway along the course, and remains largely unmodified from its original conception, protected as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
