Founded in 1875 on a former cattle market, Muir of Ord expanded from nine holes to a full 18-hole course designed by James Braid in 1927. Set among heathland and moorland in Easter Ross with views of Ben Wyvis, the course is characterised by its unique position straddling the Inverness–Wick railway line and its challenging signature twelfth hole, a 219-yard par three with two burns crossing the fairway.
