Established in 1939 by William Ellison Richardson on converted farmland near Chester, Vicars Cross is a parkland course that has evolved from its wartime struggles into a well-regarded member-owned club. The 18-hole layout, redesigned and officially reopened in 1990 after the acquisition of additional land, features USGA-standard greens and comprehensive practice facilities including a driving range and dedicated short-game areas.

- Founded by William Ellison Richardson in 1939 following closure of Blacon Point Golf Club
- Course designed and laid out in February 1939 by Eric Parr and Cyril Hughes (Professional at Royal Liverpool)
- Hosted Grand Exhibition Match in 1953 featuring Open Champions Alf Padgham and Bobby Locke
- Additional 16 acres purchased in 1987; current layout opened May 1990
- All greens reconstructed to USGA standards in the new millennium
