Royal Montrose Mercantile is the ninth oldest golf club in the world, founded in 1810, and plays over the fifth oldest golf course. The 1562 Course, named after the earliest recorded golf at Montrose, stretches 6,465 yards to a par of 71 and has hosted major championships including Final Qualifying for the Open Championship twice this century. Set on the rugged Angus coastline, both the Championship 1562 Course and the shorter Broomfield Course offer classic links golf with plenty of history.
